How to clean gold jewellery?

1. All gold rings and most precious gemstones can be cleaned with warm water, mild dish soap (no detergents) and a soft brush.

2. Don't use toothpaste, baking soda and abrasives!

3. Always remember to close the drain if you are using your sink

4. Rinse your jewellery in warm water, let it dry completely and buff with a soft, dry, lint free cloth

5. To return the shine of your gold ring please use polishing cloth we included in your order

6. If needed visit local jeweller once a year for a professional cleaning with ultrasonic

Does 14K / 18K gold tarnish?

Pure 24K gold by itself doesn't tarnish, but it is not used for jewellery making since it is extremely soft. 9K, 10K, 14K and 18K alloys are made from mixing pure gold with other metals (silver, copper) which gives them durability and colour. These metals can tarnish when exposed to oxygen, humidity and sulfur. The general rule: jewellery with less pure gold content will likely be tarnished. 18K gold won't tarnish except for a few specific and rare conditions. 14K can show a very little tarnishing if any at all.

Taking care while wearing gold jewellery.

There are some obvious things to bear in mind when it comes to protecting your gold jewellery from day-to-day damage, while others may be a little more surprising. 

One important tip to remember is you should always put on your jewellery last when getting dressed. That includes putting on aftershave, perfume, hair products or make-up beforehand, as they can all damage your jewellery.

When it comes to keeping your jewellery safe around the house, we advise you to take it off before doing any manual jobs or housework. You don’t want to accidentally scuff or scratch a ring or bracelet doing some run-of-the-mill household chores.

One last tip — what’s good for you often isn’t good for your gold jewellery. It’s best to take it off before washing your hands or taking a bath or shower, as you don’t want to submerge it in water or expose it to products like shower gel and shampoo.
